URBAN&NATURE - outdoor training - on THURSDAYS

 

On Thursdays in Zurich, I offer URBAN & NATURE, an outdoor – training in exchange with the environment. We overcome obstacles and deal with different undergrounds and practice different variations of site-specific movements departing form walking, running, crawling, hanging, balancing, pushing & pulling, lifting, jumping. We work with perceptions and senses, using natural elements, deal with different surfaces and use architecture as inspiration for movement (mapping space with the body).
We go along the river and in the forest and walk, jump, climb, hang and balance our way through nature/city!

We warm-up and mobilize our spine with the CAYoga – tool ‘backbender’*. From there we depart into a series of asanas working with anatomical visualization and sensory images in order to isolate body parts and experience their functionality in the skeleton-structure. Through becoming aware of the sensations you can experience while practicing, we can navigate ourselves by using those sensations to break through habits, blockades and pain and restore our innate mobility and strength. As a result we experience space and lightness in the body and mind and come to a total, free, dynamic and powerful movement. This process becomes our base to welcome gravity and momentum, gently leading us to dynamic movement sequences. 

*The CAYoga (critical alignment) method is amongst others based on the notion that the upper back can be straight, rather than curved. The benefits of a straight upper back carry through to the neck, lower back and extremities. Backbend positions play an important role in this process and the ‘backbender’, a curved wooden bow is a fantastic tool to help you in your practice and on your way to a happy, healthy, mobile and pain free spine.

Wir wärmen die Wirbelsäule auf und mobilisieren sie mit Hilfe des ‘backbender’*, ein CAYoga – Gerät. Mit mobil-warmen Rückengrat tauchen wir in eine Serie von Asanas ein. Durch anatomische Visualisierung und Wahrnehmungsbilder, isolieren wir Körperteile und erfahren ihre Funktionalität in der Skelettstruktur.Indem wir uns der Empfindungen bewusst werden, die wir beim Üben erleben, können wir diese nutzen, um Gewohnheiten, Blockaden und Schmerzen zu durchbrechen und unsere angeborene Beweglichkeit und Kraft wiederherzustellen. Infolgedessen erfahren wir Raum und Leichtigkeit in Körper und Denken, was zu einer völlig freien, dynamischen und kraftvollen Bewegung führt. Die Asana-Serie und dieser Prozess werden zu unserer Basis, um Bewegung in den Raum zu tragen und Schwerkraft und Momentum sowie komplexere Bewegungsabläufe willkommen zu heissen.
*Die CAYoga-Methode (Critical Alignment) basiert unter anderem auf der Überzeugung, dass der obere Rücken gerade und nicht gekrümmt sein kann.  Die Vorteile eines geraden oberen Rückens wirken sich auf den Nacken, den unteren Rücken und die Extremitäten aus. Rückwärtsbewegungen der Wirbelsäule spielen dabei eine wichtige Rolle. Der ‘backbender’, ein Holzbogen, ist ein fantastisches Werkzeug, um uns in dieser Bewegung und auf dem Weg zu einer glücklichen, gesunden, beweglichen und schmerzfreien Wirbelsäule zu unterstützen.

About Andrea Boll: I’m a choreographer and dancer ever since I came to planet earth. I make dance pieces for the stage, in public spaces and in nature as well as dance movies. I teach Contemporary Dance, partnering and outdoor training and I’m as well a certified Critical Alignment yoga teacher! I have practiced CAYoga since the early nineties with founder Gert van Leeuwen in Amsterdam.

This class also prepares you well for the more challenging class on FR and the series on SAT!

We work with anatomical visualisation (bones, joints, muscles) and sensory images in order to isolate body parts and experience their functionality in the skeleton-structure. You learn to understand and to guide yourself through the sensations you can experience while practicing and how to use them to break through habits and rebuild coordination and strength.

In this online-training I will provide a couple of floor-work principles and research-topics, including some martial arts elements one can try on the spot or moving through the space available during the lockdown. We work together through digital connection for 40 min. Every 5-10 min I’ll propose a new topic. And you’re warmly invited to propose as well (let me know in the beginning of the class or spontaneously during)! – JOIN and TRAIN TOGETHER!

*SAT 10:00-11:15 perky pelvis & legs / turns & twists (series)
this class focuses on series of yoga-exercises and is suitable for all level. You can follow it also outdoor if the weather is good (f.e. hook up with friends in the back yard / on a grass field. no more than 5 And 2 m distance, you know why!). Or roll out of bed and on the yoga mat – both will be a reinforcing WE-start!

Choreographer Andrea Boll, in collaboration with steadicam operator / editor Peter Kadar and steadicam expert Chris Fawcett, made the dance film downhill shot entierly on smartphone. The handset with Steadicam Volt Smartphone Stabilizer gave them production strength and proved to be the perfect equipment for shooting on difficult terrain like a steep high Alp.

In collaboration with the Henny Jurriëns Foundation, Cinedans organizes a two-day workshop for dance makers with film ambitions. Andrea Boll and her team introduce you to the choreography of the camera: where does the camera take over from the dancer and how do you create dynamics? A hands on workshop for both experienced and interested makers.

Note: we work on our own equipment, all participants take their own camera, smartphone, iPad and mount them on their own software.

On Saturday, March 17 & 18, the film downhill by Adrea Boll, Peter Kadar and Chris Fawcett will premiere at Cinedans.

Andrea initiated the AS-Study group in Zurich.

In 2013 Andrea became member of the project team of LEAP (learn-exchange-apply-practice) / IDOCDE, a dance teacher and dance education network and project, supported by the EU, in the function of symposium manager of the 2nd and 3ed IDOCDE symposium on dance education in 2014 and 2015 at ImPulsTanz in Vienna, as well as the Swiss facilitator of LEAP.
